Error or fault codes are programmed in all General Electric electronic oven controls. The codes are used to help you or technicians diagnose what the issue with the oven is. When these codes are displayed you can often find what the problem is within the manual that came with your oven. After you have found the problem you can determine if you will attempt to try to fix the problem yourself or call an oven repair service.
If your General Electric oven is displaying the F2 error it could be just a glitch or it could be indicating that a component needs to be replaced. It can appear when you are baking or while the oven is in “Cleaning Mode.” When this error code does appear the oven will be unusable until the problem is resolved.
So before you decide to call an oven repair service, go through these 6 steps and see if you can diagnose and fix the problem on your own.
The first step is identifying what the problem is exactly, it could also just be a glitch, which is what you should first assess before moving forward.
When you first see the F2 error code it will flash on the oven’s LCD screen as the oven beeps twice. After the oven has beeped twice it will shut down and the F2 error code will remain frozen on the screen.
If the F2 error code has frozen on the oven after shutting down, then unplug the oven for 30 seconds. Plug the oven back in and see if the error code appears again. At times glitches will occur and the error code will randomly appear. If the code does not reappear than it was just a glitch and you can continue to use the oven as normal.
If after resetting the oven the F2 error code still appears, you will have to determine which component is faulty, because, as stated above, the error code means that a component needs to be replaced, but you have to first find out which component it is.
First, inspect the relay that is located inside of the oven near the broiler at the top of the oven. If you can see that the relay is damaged, you will need to replace the oven’s electronic control board. However, if the relay looks to be in good condition, move on to step 4.
If the error code isn’t appearing due to a glitch or damaged relays, check the oven’s temperature sensor. If any wires are exposed or damaged then your temperature sensor is misreading your oven’s heat which causes the F2 error code. If you have found any damaged or exposed wires you will need to replace the entire component.
If you feel comfortable replacing these parts on your own, find your oven`s model number in your manual. If you no longer have the manual, you will find a sticker with the model information on the inside of the oven door. After you have found the model number order the appropriate parts from the General Electric site.
If after you have gone through all of the steps listed about and still cannot assess the problem, or have assessed the problem but do not feel comfortable replacing the parts on your own, you then should call an oven repair service.
